Commonwealth Games 2022: Delhi High Court SLAMS AFI to rule in favour of medal prospect Tejaswin Shankar, says “there should be no ego problem”
  • Tejaswin was the only Indian High-jumper to achieve the Athletics Federation of India’s qualification mark of 2.27 m for the CWG 2022.
  • But within a few days, he was left out of the Indian Athletics squad as he failed to take part in the Inter-state Meet which was held in Chennai in July as it clashed with the NCAA Championships in the United States and Tejaswin chose to participate in the latter.
  • Tejaswin then decided to fight this in court and finally after some sleepless nights, got the Delhi High Court’s verdict in his favour.
  • The AFI later told the court that Shankar’s name has been included in the team in place of Arokia Rajiv, who was in the initial 37-member team.
  • After this, the IOA had made a request to the Birmingham organisers for late inclusion of Shankar but it was rejected on July 7.
  • However, the organisers made a U-turn on Friday and allowed the Delhi high jumper to participate in the quadrennial event.
  • He then had to get the administrative clearance and visa and was finally able to board the flight just three days ago to Birmingham.

From having undergone a roller-coaster of emotions, Tejaswin kept his cool and delivered in style with this stunning medal winning performance.
